Frieda
Frieda arrived at Holbrook at the start of 2025 in heartbreaking condition. Malnourished, in pain, and facing the very real risk of euthanasia, she needed urgent help—and a second chance at life. From the moment she arrived, Frieda’s gentle spirit shone through, and she quickly stole the hearts of everyone at the sanctuary.
We knew she deserved that second chance. With extensive veterinary care, including major dental work, surgery to repair her cruciate ligament, and ongoing treatment for leishmaniasis and other health concerns, Frieda has undergone a remarkable transformation. Today, she’s like a new dog—happy, comfortable, and full of quiet joy.
Frieda now enjoys her days plodding peacefully through the fields with her doggy companions, and she’s always up for a gentle game of ball. Her eyes are brighter, her tail wags often, and her spirit has truly come back to life.
Due to her complex and ongoing medical needs, Frieda is not suitable for rehoming. Instead, we’ve made the decision to welcome her permanently into our sanctuary family, where she will continue to receive the care, love, and stability she needs for the rest of her days.
Frieda is a shining example of the power of compassion—and a daily reminder of why places like Holbrook exist.
