Patrick

Patrick came into the care of Holbrook this week and completely stole our hearts♥️ While Patrick was running around and exploring the sensory garden we noticed a few things that gave us cause for concern!
Patrick had an obvious head tilt and his balance was off, if he ran too fast he would topple over, both indications of an ear issues.
On closer inspection we also noticed his face-folds and nose fold looked red and sore, he had stained paws and itchy skin, he is also very overweight which causes him breathing issues; Patrick really is a wonky dog!
So we got to work! Patrick had a lovely medicated bath which he thoroughly enjoyed, we cleaned his face-folds and ears which he was happy to let us do then he headed off to his foster home while we made an appointment for in to see the vet.
Patrick has been to see the vet this afternoon and the news wasn’t great but it was as we expected.......
Not only does Patrick have an outer ear infection, he has a deep inner ear infection too, it is extremely painful for Patrick!
Patrick has an infection in his nose fold and between his toes, he has irritated skin that will require maleseb baths!
At 12.8 kg Patrick is heavily overweight and the vet would like to see him slowly get down to approximately 10kg with managed exercise which will improve his breathing! He has a limp to his right front leg which the vet thinks is caused by his excess weight!
Patrick came away with 5 different medications to address his ears and skin infections, along with pain relief!
Patrick is now in foster where all his needs are being taken care of. He has two companion dogs to play with that will show him how to be a dog as he learns to love life!
Patrick is not available for adoption just yet, first we need to fix him so please no applications.
We will keep you updated on Patrick’s journey and hope that you will follow his rehabilitation wishing him lots of luck along the way 😊
As you can imagine Patrick’s medical costs will continue to grow as we work with the vet to treat his conditions, neuter and vaccinate him.
If you would like to contribute to Patrick’s medical costs every penny would be greatly appreciated and it’s easy to do..

Charlie

Age

3 years

Charlie is a UK dog handed in because his owners couldn't cope. Charlie is a jack russel/chihuahua cross. He is very nervous and doesn't walk on a lead. Charlie will need rehabilitation before he can be put up for adoption

Nellie

Age

8 years

Sex

Female

A couple of weeks ago Laura was contacted by another rescue asking for help with one of their dogs that was finding it hard to settle in her new home. After carrying out an assessment on Nellie who is believed to be approximately 8 years old we knew that she had no aggression, she was just very nervous and not ready to cope with life in a home environment. Knowing that Nellie would be at Holbrook for quite a long time Laura agreed to take her in to ensure she had a safe future and to start her rehabilitation. Nellie was given the time she needed to settle into Holbrook, we didn’t rush her to interact with us or with all the other dogs. Slowly but surely Nellie is now starting to feel at home and is venturing out more and more. Nellie is not available for adoption so no applications please, we will keep you updated on her progress.

Poppy

Age

6 years

Sex

Female

When Poppy first arrived at Holbrook she was literally scared of her own shadow. But now when things are quiet at Holbrook, Poppy comes out to see Laura, tail wagging and interacts with the other dogs. volunteers at Holbrook will continue to help build her confidence and make sure she feels very much loved

Angel

Age

18 months

Sex

Female

Angel was nervous to begin with but soon began to settle and enjoy the freedom of Holbrook. She now approaches volunteers for a treat and stays in the mix of anything happening. We have began to slowly desensitize Angel to the lead, she is enjoying her 1-2-1 sessions which are clearly also helping to build her confidence.

Flash

Age

5 years

Sex

Male

When Flash arrived at Holbrook he was wary of everyone and everything, spending his days hidden away. He is much more relaxed now. We have been working on building his confidence and he will now approach certain volunteers and gently take a treat but he’s not quite ready to initiate contact.

Sissy

Age

5 years

Sex

Female

Sissy arrived at Holbrook and did not settle well as she is very nervous. She can walk on the lead but at the moment doesn't feel comfortable so this needs more work. She desperately wants to trust and each day there is a little improvement in her confidence.
